Social innovators are challenging the status quo, with their sights focused on driving social change, determined to make the world a fairer place. Many are developing innovative solutions to some of the most pressing societal needs, their hard work and commitment has significant benefits to the communities in which they operate.
In line with our commitment to making an impact that matters, we are excited to have hosted our first social innovation programme in our Cape Town Greenhouse. The workshop is an extension of the Western Cape Funding Fair, and seeks to offer investment readiness skills to select social innovators.
Participants in the programme have developed innovative solutions tackling key issues such as water scarcity, access to electricity, fire, healthcare, connectivity and agriculture. Through the workshop we aimed to provide them with the skills necessary to commercialise their solutions and to scale up their businesses.
Facilitated by Deloitte professionals and entrepreneurial thought leaders from across industry, the interactive workshop covered a variety of themes such as understanding investors and corporate partnerships. The event wrapped up with a talk by social entrepreneur, Paul Kim of PICSA the team behind bringing impactful financial products to farm workers, enabling their long-term financial security.
The event was hosted in partnership with Deloitte Germany and the Western Cape Department of Economic Development and Tourism.
